Wasting an hour
If you haven't been to the Kingdom of Loathing yet, you should go. It's a text and primitive graphics based online RPG that runs in your web browser. The writing is clever and funny, and it's easy to get sucked in. There's also a limited number of turns available per day, so you can't waste more than an hour on it. My first day I created a character of the Turtle Tamer class, collected several hundred meat, bought a pair of studded boxer shorts, and fought a knife-wielding asparagus.
